Talk to any success or inspirational coach or leader and they will say the same thing as far as what the most important thing top leaders do to be great!
It is not managing money, or coming up with a new product idea, or selling, or being nice, or being a good business person, these things happen by learning, instinct and courage in some cases…
Now there are many things that are essential for life, business and work success…but…The one thing that today’s leaders (young or old) do to keep on being great is this!
They have a morning ritual!
Now these rituals vary, but essentially it is the same thing…you can do what you tend to enjoy first thing in the morning…
Author and speaker Hal Elrod states, that that one thing leaders do…can have these kind of results…
“What if you could miraculously wake up tomorrow and any—or every area of your life was transformed? What would be different? Would you be happier? Healthier? More successful? In better shape? Would you have more energy? Less Stress? More Money? Better relationships? Which of your problems would be solved”?
Success guru, Tony Robbins does it too…he calls it “Priming” it is a ritual he does each morning and it is broken into three parts. He will usually play some form of instrumental meditative music throughout.
Brian Tracy, calls it the “Golden Hour” an hour you take for you in the morning…no if’s and’s or but’s!
The thing that leaders do is this!
They get up 30-60 minutes earlier each work day and they do one of several things…
Meditate, Read, Exercise, Plan, Journal, and do your Affirmations!
Personally I do this each work day and one day on the weekend…and I swear that it keeps me sane in this crazy time we live in…
I find I have more energy, more peace and calm in my life as a result of my daily ritual.
Here is what I recommend for your daily three:
- Journal and do positive affirmations:
Journal and Do your affirmations…I do these each day…I play spiritual music in the background that up lifts my spirits…and I do a gratitude journal listing off at least 10 or more things that I am grateful for…it can be something meaningful like health, family, friendships, or something like thank you for the Blue Jays win last night…
I then do my affirmations, where I affirm positive ideas, and thoughts about myself…I don’t want to get overly personal, but here is an example, I affirm that I am peace, that I am…or I am abundant that I am…or I am health, that I am!
Your affirmations would be meaningful to you. I usually affirm about 8-10 things…my good colleague and friend Gail Scott, suggested I even affirm my being sexy…I always laugh a little when I write that in my journal…but hey, if you don’t affirm your own sexiness, who will? (Smiling)
Oh and lastly I write out my intentions for the day…usually 3-4 words about what I intend to have happen!
My intentions could be about having ease, fun, inspiring others…whatever it is you’d love to have happen that day, state them, write them down on paper and at the end of the day, see if it happened?
2. Exercise
The 2nd big thing is to exercise…yup tie on those sneakers and go for a walk, bike, dance, jump…do something…20-30 minutes in the morning and you watch, your energy, vitality and confidence levels will go up and will transcend throughout the day.
You can feel confident coming into work that you exercised first thing in the morning…it improves circulation, breathing, reduces sugar levels if you are diabetic and it get’s your cardio going…trust me exercise first thing…is a great and empowering gift you can give yourself…
3. Meditate
The third thing you can do…for your morning ritual is this…and that is to meditate…I listen to You Tube meditations of all kinds when I meditate. They have 5 minute meditations, music only meditations, guided imagery meditations, crystal bowl sound healing meditations to positive affirmation meditations…the choice is wildly abundant…choose the ones you like and just be quiet with your thoughts for 5-30 minutes if you can.
I promise you, if you do this every morning, your life will change for the better, you will be happier, content, confident, clearer, and more alert!
What Tony, Brian and Hal do…
Now…if you want to tap into what Tony Robbins does…he does a cold plunge (he has a cryogenic tank) but he also does breath work (Yoga), he also prays each day and takes time to expresses gratitude too!
Brian Tracy (sales coach) does some planning and goal setting, visualizing and having some alone time to think and plan…
Hal Elrod’s book the Miracle Morning, suggests you take on a routine similar to what I have already shared with you…he has documented proof of the profound effects on your life, mental, spiritual and physical health…
In closing, if you take some of these on each day, let me know what changes you notice and see have happen in your life, I would love to know!
