With the arrival of spring, many of us, both young and old, decide we could lose a few pounds and get in better shape. We also find that losing weight is not as easy as we thought. As we age, our metabolism slows down and it’s a lot harder to lose weight than when we were younger.
Some Weight Loss Tips for Seniors
- Try different methods for losing weight. There are a variety of exercise methods and healthy meal plans out there. If one doesn’t show results, try another.
- Keep in mind that it may not be that you are eating too much. The weight you gain may be caused by lack of activity. Step up your physical activity while eating the same amount and see what a difference it makes. It could be that adding something as simple as a 10 minute walk every day will help you with weight loss.
Look for support with your weight loss plan. Start with your doctor as you should always check in with a medical professional before starting a new diet or physical activity. Look to your community for senior exercise groups. Many senior centers have a variety of classes that will help you to get your body moving and socialize with others at the same time.
Hire a trainer or coach if you are so inclined. They can work with you to build your own exercise program and ensure that you don’t cause stress to your body. Weight loss needs to become a habit, not something you do one day and then get back to several weeks later. Doing the same thing every day or several times a week will help you get into the habit of exercising and it won’t be long until you see the results.
