Book Announcement: Imagining Violet

We have published a couple of travel pieces by Mary E. Hughes. Now here’s news of a pair of historical novels she’s written, based on family history and a lot of research. Mary tells us that in order to properly research “Imagining Violet”, she took up the violin at the age of 70. She now plays in a small string ensemble on Salt Spring Island on Violet’s actual violin.

The first part of a trilogy, “Imagining Violet”, is the story of a 16 year old English girl who went on her own, in 1891, to Leipzig Germany, to study violin. Part Two continues Violet’s story as she marries and emigrates to Toronto in 1898 where her husband, Frank Welsman, is establishing himself as a concert pianist. Frank Welsman went on to become the founding conductor of the first permanent Toronto Symphony Orchestra. “Imagining Violet Married” is set in Toronto and in Muskoka in the earliest years of the 20th century. Both books are
available at Amazon or through the author’s website: https://imaginingviolet.blogspot.com.
