After 30 years of working for other companies in Montreal and Mississauga,
husband-and-wife team John Riedl and Deanna Groves took the plunge and
moved to the country to follow their dreams. Their long-term plan was to
create botanical gardens for everyone to enjoy.
Deanna earned her Landscaping Design degree at U of Guelph, graduating
with honours, they opened a landscaping business called The Garden Place,
and have designed and installed approximately 255 gardens including
residences, parks, commercial properties, and golf clubs.
Each year they give back to their community by volunteering a landscape or
garden for those in need. Some of the projects they have helped with are
Habitat for Humanity, Home Build for Health Care to raise funds for the
Belleville and Trenton hospitals, Community Living Sensory Garden, and
places of worship. Along with their landscaping work, they have now conceived, designed, created, financed, manage and maintain the largest project of their lives
and Canada’s newest botanical garden – the Quinte Botanical Gardens.
