When is the last time you had a really serious, really focused face-to-face meeting with your sibling—or make it siblings—about caring for your aging parents? A while ago? Long ago? Never?
One of the major challenges within a family where sisters and brothers will have roles to play in the ongoing saga of eldercare is to define and agree on roles and responsibilities. The state of relationships, distances, parental preferences… all these and more factors come into play.
It’s important for siblings to determine a common course of action, decide who will be the lead sibling, and then support each other, no matter what, and no second-guessing.
It’s not always easy going at the outset. But getting siblings on the same eldercare page sooner than later can make the world of difference down the line.
