No matter how much face cream you put on or yoga classes you go to, one day your age will catch up to you and you’ll start to notice that you’re a step slower and tasks that were easy 10 years ago are ever so slightly strenuous now.
While there’s not a lot you can do about slowing down other than trying to live a healthy and active life, there are changes you can make around your home to make it more accessible and less strenuous, whether you yourself are noticing you’re not as mobile as you used to be, or you’re a younger person living with an older parent.
So let’s have a look at some easy ways you can keep your home accessible using modern technology and make your day to day life a little bit easier!
Electronic Blinds
First off, we have electric blinds, which can often be controlled by a remote control or by smart home technology. If you’re starting to struggle with your mobility, it can be a bit of a chore to open and close blinds throughout the day, especially if your windows are in hard-to-reach areas.
So by using electronic blinds, you can make your life easier by remotely controlling your blinds rather than having to get up and adjust them every few hours! Better yet, you can also program most electronic blinds to go to set levels allowing you to set the blinds to automatically move during the day.
Robot Vacuums
No one enjoys doing the vacuuming and even for able bodied people, vacuuming an entire house can at times be a bit strenuous, especially if it’s a large home. So if you’re losing a bit of your energy, vacuuming a whole house can be a strenuous task for older people.
But luckily, there’s a solution to this. Robot vacuums are small vacuums which operate themselves, they will drive around your home vacuuming as they go, which completely removed the need for you to do this chore. If you live in a multi floor home, you may need to move the vacuum up and down stairs, but as they’re smaller than a traditional vacuum, that won’t be as big a task as carrying a normal vacuum cleaner.
Chair Lift Cushion
If you’re starting to struggle with your mobilty, you’ve probably noticed that small tasks you once did with utter ease have become a bit challenge. One such of those every day tasks is simply standing up from a seated position, which can be challenging especially if you have a deep comfortable armchair or sofa.
Again, there’s a simple remedy to this issue, chair lift cushions! These handy little cushions can either go underneath your chair’s cushion or in place of the cushion, then when you want to stand up, you press a button and a pneumatic device in the chair will lift you up to help you get out. Better yet, lot’s of these are portable, meaning you can bring it with you when you go out to eat or visit friends!
